When it comes to interior design, tips and ideas are always welcome. Whether it’s giving your home an illusion of extra space, a fresh makeover or simply making your decoration an easier task, there is sure to be a shortcut to everything. In this post, we have listed a few of our fantastic decorating secrets!

PaintingsIf you have a painting that looks too small above your sofa, don’t centre it. Place it a few inches to the left which will make the negative space become part of the image. Additionally if you’re going to paint the walls white, have a look at our Autentico range to make sure you find the right shade of white for your home. Having white walls may also mean that you need to use art such as a picture or a sign to compliment the plain decoration. If you would like something different, match your walls to a colour in one of your fabrics.

FurnitureOne of the best pieces of advice we can suggest is to never push furniture up against the wall. This is because by pulling your seating arrangement in even just a few inches, you instantly warm up a space. If in doubt about what to do about your living room furniture, start your plan with the best seat in the room and then work from there. In addition, here at Eclectic At Home, we strongly believe that every room needs at least one antique piece of furniture!

Lighting
An interesting suggestion you may not have thought of is that when you have lamps with two sockets, use one pink bulb and one white bulb for a stunning effect! Additionally, dining room chandeliers should hang 60” to 66” above the floor. For the ultimate finish to an atmospheric living room, lamps or candles are the best way to complete your decoration.

Storage
Not everything has to be stored in a dull chest of drawers, use a decorative item such as a wicker basket or a plant pot to add a unique touch to your home. Even for small items such as your keys or jewellery, a delicate storage box will make be an impressive addition to your vintage decoration.

We hope this post has given you some ideas to muse over. If you have any further tips we’d love to hear from you on Twitter, Google+ or Facebook!
